Statistics on Domestic Violence (DV)

Approximately 95% of victims of DV are women
In the U.S., it is more likely that a partner than a stranger will assault, hurt, rape, or kill a woman 
Every year, 3 to 4 million women are beaten by their partners
Abused women suffer more injuries that need medical assistance than all the victims of rapes, assaults and accidents combined
Every year, more than a million women need medical assistance resulting from domestic violence
The FBI reports that, of every 100 women who are murdered, 30 die at the hands of their partners.  Only 6 of every 100 men murdered die at the hands of their partners
Of every 100 women that go to the emergency room with injuries, 20 were beaten by their partners
In 2 out of every 3 couples, there has been at least one case of abuse in the life of the couple
Domestic violence occurs in all social, racial and economic groups
