Not Otherwise Specified
"Not Otherwise Specified
" is the
usual category used for cases that do not fit into the other
categories. It encompasses all of the causes of dyssomnia not
included in the specific dyssomnias. Common examples include sleep
disturbance by noise or light, or sleep deprivation from any
cause--working two jobs, for example. Less common examples include
"restless leg syndrome," involving sensations that
demand that the legs be moved, or "nocturnal myoclonus,"
involving involuntary jerks of the limbs that disturb sleep.
Finally, there is dyssomnia about whose cause the examiner is
uncertain; it could be primary, or it could be the result of a
medical condition or of the use of a substance.
