Dysthymia
Some people don't have symptoms as serious as those described for depression,
or they seem to be "slightly" depressed all the time. It is possible
that they have dysthymia, which is also a type of mood disorder.
In dysthymia, the more serious symptoms of depression may not be present
(such as the suicidal ideation, or the problems in appetite or
energy). However, the depressed mood is there and it is a problem. Also,
dysthymia seems to be more long term than the depressive episodes. For a
diagnosis of dysthymia, for example, the depressed mood needs to be present for
at least 2 years.
