Narcissistic Personality Disorder

This disorder is named for the self-loving grandiosity of people given this diagnosis. People with narcissistic personality (NP) believe that their attractiveness and power are unlimited. They are preoccupied with fantasies about their own marvelous characteristics, and think they should associate only with people who have similar attributes. They think they deserve the best of everything, and are arrogant and haughty about their rights. Although they are in the same cluster as those with Antisocial Personality Disorder, they are less prone to criminal behaviors; they are much more confident than those with Histrionic Personality Disorder, and they have a much more stable self image, and less fear of abandonment, than do those with Borderline Personality Disorder. However, just as with other personality disorders, if a person meets the criteria for one of the other disorders--for example, for Antisocial Personality Disorder--both disorders can be diagnosed for the same person.
