Other
Conditions that Cause Dementia
There
are many additional conditions that can cause dementia, but they are
not common enough to be given separate diagnoses in DSM-IV.
They are, therefore, lumped under the "other" category. We
have described vascular dementia separately because it is an
exception to the "not common" rule. Some less common
conditions that are mentioned in our general discussion are dementia
caused by medication, drug abuse, or toxins, and dementia caused by
normal pressure hydrocephalus. All of these conditions may be
treatable.
Visit a
site with a wealth of information on many kinds of dementia; it's a
very thorough site.
