Pick's
Disease
Pick's disease is a form of dementia; its cause is
not known, but it produces progressive deterioration that cannot at
present be halted. The physiological changes that underlie the
dementia are degeneration of the frontal and temporal lobes of the
brain. Most often the disease occurs in people between 50 and 60
years old, but there are cases as young as 20 and as old as 80.
Research on its cause and possible cure is under way.
Excellent information on Pick's is available through the Pick's
Foundation web site.
A support group
for caretakers of patients with Pick's disease can also be contacted
online. You will find many sad stories and much heartwarming support
on sites like this.
