PURPOSE OF HEALTH IN MIND
This
web site is for anybody interested in learning more about mental
disorders. It offers practical information and quick access to help.
We can give you information that you need, or are curious about,
in plain language as briefly as possible. We can't tell whether
you or someone you know has a problem, but we can tell you about
other people who have had mental problems and what happened to them.
The ultimate
purpose of this web site is to promote good mental health. Healthinmind
hopes to do this by providing you with information on mental disorders
and on getting help from qualified professionals. We are not the
"final contact" in your search for help. We hope to be the bridge
that leads you to a mental health professional if, after reading
our pages, you realize that there is a problem, or you realize that
you are not sure whether there is a problem or not. The final
contact
is a mental health professional with whom you will be in face-to-face
relationship, who can evaluate the situation confidentially, and who
can then determine whether services are needed and, if they are,
what type.
As one of her predictions for the new
millennium, the Director of the National Alliance for the Mentally
Ill, Laurie Flynn, said that the Internet will play a significant
role in the mental health field in coming years, partly because it
allows consumers to get information while remaining anonymous. We
agree!
You probably
wouldn't be visiting web sites if you had an emergency problem,
but if something you read on this site makes you think that you
are dealing with an emergency, get off the net and call 911. If
you want to read more about Emergencies, go to the top of this
page and click on "emergencies." We also
want to keep you up with the latest-breaking news on mental health,
which you can read by clicking on "news" at the top of
the page.
Currently,
we are funding the site ourselves (see authors).
In order
to help fund this site in the future, we may display advertising that we believe is
appropriate to the site or helpful to our readers. We also have
direct links to Amazon.com so that our readers can purchase the
books we suggest if they choose to, and we obtain income from those
purchases.
