How to Use This
Site
We have tried to keep this site simple.
All pages have a navigation bar at the top, just like the one
above. At the bottom of most pages you find links that allow you to
continue with the same topic or a related topic. We have two types of
links on most pages: internal and external. Internal
links take you to other places inside Healthinmind. External links
take you outside of our site to other sites on the web. If you're new to the site
your best bet is to go to our Home Page, from which you can navigate to the
entire site.
Search takes you to an
internal search engine where you can type in keywords for what you are
interested in. This is probably your best choice if you are looking
for something specific and you know what that is.
Mental Health Disorders (only
"Disorders" on the Navigation Bar) takes you to a page that in turn leads you to all of the mental disorders.
Disorders are listed by categories, so it may be a good place to go if you
don't know the name of the disorder you are interested in, but you have a
general idea.
How Families Can Help provides
information on what families and friends can do to help individuals with
mental health disorders live a better life. We've tried to supply
you with easy to read, useful information and an explanation of how your
behavior can help the patient.
About Getting Services leads you to a page
with several links to information relevant to those who are considering
seeking professional help for themselves or a loved one. We include
information on types of mental health professionals, types of treatments,
what to expect from your first visit, issues of confidentiality, etc.
Emergencies provides you with
information on how to prevent or identify potential dangers. It
includes suicide and domestic violence (and will be expanded as time goes
on), along with links for further information.
About Mental Disorders provides
general information on mental illness, such as definitions, causes, and a
glossary of terms used in this site.
Purpose of Health in Mind gives
you information on why we created this site and what we hope to accomplish
with it.
Disclaimer provides you with
information on the limitations of healthinmind and other web resources
like this one. The emphasis from this page is that you need to be an
informed Internet visitor.
Mentesana.com is our
Spanish web site. If you prefer to read in Spanish, or would like to
print information out for a Spanish-speaker, you can go to this site.
If you don't even know where to
start, but you know you want information about symptoms, try this
page to see if it helps you find your way.
We also have a page for
recent developments in the mental health field; click
here to go to our "news" page.
You will notice that our site is nearly all
text, and that the text is printed in easily visible letters. We wanted to make our
site easy to print for your convenience, and we also wanted it to be
easy to read on the screen in case you couldn't, or didn't want to, print
out the information. We also tried to include as few links as possible on
each page, both to make it easier to choose where you want to go next, and
to reduce the time required and the paper wasted on links in case you did
want to print out what was on the screen. Also, some people have browsers
that don't show graphics--and finally, we don't want our site to look like
a billboard and make you feel like we're always trying to sell you
something.
In order to fund this site, we may display advertising that
we believe is appropriate to the site or helpful to our readers. We
also have direct links to Amazon.com so that our readers can purchase the
books we suggest if they choose to, and we obtain income from those
purchases. So far, that hasn't paid expenses!
